Default LS2 heads on 98 LS1 motor

Good day everyone. I am looking at picking up a new set of LS2 (243) heads from a friend. They came with his crate LS2 motor and he is going a different route.

Would these work as well as the ls6 243 heads and what would I need to make them work on my car?

Wikipedia says, same casting, but the LS6 heads carry sodium filled valves.

In a nutshell, yes they will fit. Are they worth swapping? Everything I've seen says they are only worth another five horsepower. It was the cam and intake that make up most of the power difference between the LS1 and LS6.

Here comes the hate mail now.

LS2 heads ARE 243 heads, but with SS valves. 6500 rpm

the LS6 243 heads have the hollow Intake and Sodium filled exhaust valves for higher RPM use. 7000 rpm

Ummmm no... They are worth an extra 15-20rwhp....
Heads are where it's at. They define set ups.

I agree with the above post. I just picked up a brand new set of assembled 243 ls2 heads. What head gasket would I need to have them installed on my 98 coupe?

I'd get a cosmetic head gasket to up the compression a bit, if your swapping the cam out and all.

I am swapping the cam out for an ls6 but will be supercharging so do not want to up the compression any more. Should I go with oem ls2 gaskets, or ls6 gaskets, or what?

Light wt valves are for higher rpm use and to prevent valve float around 6400-6500 RPMs

You will need to get center bolt valve covers and the coil brackets from a 99+ Up Vette or Camaro etc. and valve cover gaskets too!

1997-1998 are parameter bolts on the valve covers,

Thanks,Matt
