1999 c5 vibration damper was replaced by Goodyear mechanic. Said timing cover was worn but not leaking. Should it have been replaced? I'm worried about leaks and bigger problems later. Thoughts?
Damper had failed and ran sc belt off. Damper went toward timing cover and groved it some. Just wondering if others had same problem and what all was replaced.

My 98 did the exact same thing. However, I ignored the sounds coming from the engine and thought it was a hanger wire or something wrapped around a half shaft. Mine damaged the timing chain cover and the oil pan. It was costly to say the least but I learned a very valuable lesson. The timing cover is relatively cheap. I bought mine on this Forum for about $65 used and an oil pan for $150. The labor parts, including a damper, cost me a total of $1100. I HAD to replace the cover as it was leaking from the damage. If it were me I would have replaced the timing chain cover and the crank seal inside. Good Luck.
No I don't because I never have anyone work on any of my cars, ever
I guess you own a tire machine, tire balancer, alignment rack, Tech II scanner, and A/C charging station too.....I wish I had all that stuff in my garage!
