Default emergency brake problem

On my '00 the emergency brake has started a midlife crisis. It will work fine for a couple days and then it will go all the way up without engaging. Later it will be back to normal. Have not seen any posts resembling this problem. Any suggestions out there?

In my case, I had pushed too hard on the release button in the end of the Park Brake lever without FIRST pulling back to relieve the load on the ratchett. This deformed an internal part made of about 1/8" diameter wire connected to the release button. After that, the ratchett would not engage and the lever would just drop back to the un engaged, more or less horizontal position.

Does that sound like your problem?

I once owned a 98 with the same symptoms. If you raised it and it didn't catch, but raised and lowered it several times in succession sometimes it would catch and work fine. I never fixed the problem, but a local Corvette mechanic told me I needed to take the console off and check where the cable went around around a pulley. He said it was probably missing the groove in the pulley occasionally. He checked the cable and connections at the rear and said all was working properly there.

Will take off the console today or tom. and check it out. It does work more often than not so that sounds like the same thing. Thanks.

I had the same problem. The grease on the mechanism dries out from the tunnel heat. I cleaned old grease off of the mechanism and used some ceramic brake grease on it. Been working since then without an issue.
