Default Having issues with shifter linkage loosening up???

So its happened a couple times. I replaced the shifter thinking there was an issue and the stocker is doing the same thing. The linkage bar that goes from the trans to the shifter box is getting loose on the shifter box side. Right now there is a bolt that connects to the box and sits in a groove from the output shaft, I think this screw is backing out and making it to where my shifter is loose. I can sit in a gear and move the shifter around. Not cool. Anyone else??? Thinking a longer bolt and a nut on the oposite side will fix?

The screw that you mentioned, "keeps backing out", is suppose to have loc tite on it.
That screw is the only one that would have it on from the factory.

You also have the problem of the linkage collar, (flats, where the bolt pinches the collar tighter) is opened too wide.

You would need to pull the shifter box out of the way to get the collar
closed tighter, without the shifters box rod inserted.

Without the shifter box rod slid into the collar...,
Inspect the collar to make sure there isn't a hair line crack in it.
.
Then take note of how much gap there is between the flats of the collar.
Then take a small c clamp, etc & close this gap a bit, to where the rod isn't fitting so loose.
Put it all back together & see how it works.
Good luck

Very good advise. Thank you sir. First I think I am going to get a C6Z shifter box and then just locktite the hell out of the bolt. I can tighten down to where it doesnt move, but after a few drives it backs out.

I recommend getting the RSD (Race Specialty Designs) Snap shifter.

It comes complete with C/6 box,C/6 shifter & threaded shaft to fit the C/5 *****.

While your changing out the box, try the proceedure I recommended on that tranny shaft collar, also look for a hairline crack on it.
Good luck.

I had an issue like this, and was quite simple really, take a Q tip or rag, with some alcohol on it and wipe the shaft down where it goes inside the clamp, your problem will be resolved, somehow it has some light oil or greas on it and is just slipping. That is all you need to do.
