Seriously? Another Column Lock Issue? Help please!
Yes I have read the sticky and have searched the forums. I had the typical failure last summer, fuel cut, column lock, and towed to a dealer. Had them fix it thanks to the recall. However I am not sure which recall mod they actually performed. All I knew was it fixed the problem, or so I thought. About a month ago, I get the exact same problem. This time I installed a CLB and no more lock or fuel issue. However I still have the message (service column lock, wait 10 seconds) message. I had the battery and alternator checked at autozone and the battery was reading 13.9 under load and the alternator was charging correctly. I still get the message with the battery on a charger as well. I have tried clearing all codes on the DIC too. Should I order on of those LMC5 things or what? Am I at risk of being stranded again? How do I make the message go away?
Did you bypass the Column Lock Relay when you installed the CLB?? I'm betting not. Here is a link on how to bypass the CLR. For those lurking you need to bypass the CLR on 99 and 2000 manual trans cars and NOT on any other year if you are installing a CLB. Even then you MAY still get the Pull Key..... message:
I followed your write up on bypassing the relay. Cleared the codes. And started the car again. I get the pull key wait 10 seconds message. Turn the car off and the second time I start it I get the Column lock service message. I can simply push reset and that message goes away, unlike the wait 10 seconds message the first time. The DIC also shows no codes... Any ideas???
