Default Greasing axles??

Is there a way to get grease into the rear axle boots (where the joint is) without destroying the boots? Has anybody done this?

After a while the grease breaks down. That's why a lot of areas that require grease have fittings to replenish the grease. Nothing lasts forever.

If your talking about the halfshaft boots there are no grease fittings. The only time you grease them is if you need to replace a boot that has been ripped or torn. You can tell they are leaking if there slinging grease all over the place. Most people just replace the whole axle shaft. I have replaced boots on other vehicles and theres a lockring you need to remove to separate the shaft to get the old boot off. I don't know how easy it is to do it on a corvette but assume its the same in principle. Maybe some one thats done it on a vette can chime in.

^^ Mine was leaking a few months ago and I just replaced the halfshaft. It was only $60 or so and was way easier than trying to replace the boot - which requires disassembling the U-joint.

I guess you could loosen the boot and just squirt some grease in there if it makes you feel better. If there's a problem though, you're better off just replacing the unit.
