Default Caliper Bracket Bolts - New??

The GM Service Manual says you should always install NEW caliper bracket mounting bolts whenever your remove them. The torque on these bolts is 125 ft-lbs which doesn't seem all that high for such a hefty bolt. I don't believe these are torque to yield bolts (maybe they are) so I'm wondering why GM tells us to use NEW bolts? Is it just to ensure the thread locker is applied?

I have not replaced these in the past, just cleaned them up, applied red locktite and re-installed at 125 ft-lbs. I am interested in what other folks do. So let's hear it.... NEW or RE-USE?

Thanks

GM states to go w/new fastner at the brackets for liability concerns.

Re use for me.
I also reuse the pin bolts.

One good way to get the old loc tite off of the pin bolt, is to spin them through a die .

I've been changing brake pads since they were all shoes and I've never replaced a bolt that wasn't damaged. Clean, fresh LOCTITE, torque and you're there.

Never used new bolts on any car I've ever owned. Never had an issue. Clean the old bolts with a wire brush and put some fresh loctite on it and your good to go.

After spending about 1/2 hr each on caliper slide bolt and caliper bracket bolt, I could see why GM would think it cheaper and safer just to recommend changing them. I have mine off and on and least 4 times a month during track season for the past 5 years with no issues. I did take the time to clean the gunk off of them. Good luck with it.

Another one for reusing them. I found it really hard to break the bolts open but they came out cleanly once I got them moving.

I had mine off at least 10 times on my 98. Always just cleaned them and used loc-tite.
