Well I have had my 99 vette for over 2 years now and I was driving the other day at about 2500 rpm in second and the display said upshift now. The car has never done this since ive owned it and the next day it did it when I pushed the clutch in and was coasting in neutral. anybody might know what up my skip shift is tuned out and im not crazy i took a picture of it even,
Its a fuel mileage aid and does NOTHING for or to limit performance. It has to do with throttle angle and engine load.
So, when you are be bopping around town revving high under little or no load,, some algorithm in the PCM makes that light come on so your not wasting fuel.
Bumping this old thread because I just got the "upshift now" message yesterday.
I was hauling *** on the freeway, and had to suddenly slow down for traffic, and I noticed this message flashed on the DIC for a second.
I was really concerned because I thought I might have accidentally missed a shift and over-revved. And a few seconds after the warning, I thought I smelled burnt oil, but it could have been one of the cars in front of me.
The engine seems to be running fine, no funny noises, and the oil smell went away within 30 seconds.
So do I have anything to worry about ? So what causes the condition for this warning to come on ? I'm not quite understanding Bill's explanation. If you are using heavy throttle under a light load, wouldn't it say downshift now ? Or am I confused. Thanks guys.
