Default Does the LS7 lifter differ internally from the 2000 lifter????.......................

I just removed the heads/cam from a 2000, the lifters are identical in appearance to the replacement LS lifters now used(the LS7 lifter commonly referred to)

Has anyone sliced one open to see if GM simply went back to the older 'caged' lifter of the 2000 cars?

All the 2002/2003 lifters I've seen recently are the 'uncaged' style

one actually failed and destroyed the cam(the motor would not fire on that cylinder, it was very evident something was wrong when the valvecover was pulled)

"MEASUREMENTS", Shane does mention that key word, nothing can replace having an actual number to deal with

The LS7 lifter is the one now available, and it has superseded all the other LSx lifters. Call the dealer and ask him to look up the lifter for a 2000 Vette, and he'll come back saying the original lifter was superseded with the LS7 lifter.

If GM says it's a direct replacement then I'm betting they already determined it's going to work properly in older LSx engines. Slap 'em in ... shouldn't be an issue. What's the concern?

nobody is reading my post..........

internal changes, unless you have tech data or have taken one apart, it's all "read and re-post"

I've swapped dozens of heads/lifters in the past 10 years

LS7 as direct replacement was stated in the OP, nothing new

If you are concerned about the internal design being "weak", then guess the real question is ... how many reports of LS7 lifter failure has there been?

I had no luck finding photos of a disassembled LS7 lifter. Get one in your hands and open it up yourself I guess ... you could be the first on the internet to post up photos of a disassembled LS7 lifter.

we can just leave at as it's interesting that it's the SAME in appearance as the 2000 lifter, haven't pulled 97-99 heads in awhile
