New member with differential question
Hello all! Glad to be back in a vette. Picked up a 02 Z06 a couple of months ago and for the past couple of weeks the pinion gear is getting louder. Typical symptoms of whine on acceleration, quiet on deceleration/foot off the gas. Much worse when hot. New differential needed verified by a mechanic. My question stems from searches on this topic. Do I get the stock GM performance parts replacement or spend more for a rebuilt one with beefed up parts. I do not race this car and do not plan on drastic mods. For the stock GM replacement the pinion setup seems to have been a problem for many years. Has GM improved on the design in the past ten years or is the diff they now sell an exact copy of what was put in the car ten years ago? .....BTW, great forum.Has already saved me money with DIY tips for the dim HVAC fix and door switch/accordian tube fix.
