Interstate batteries have always had a decent reputation for quality.
The foam blanket around it is intended to shield the battery from engine heat. The early C5's came with it from the factory.
Yeah, and they were known for leaking acid on the cars' ecu. Mine did. Ive had better luck with Duralast batteries. Had an Optima for 4yrs too till a cell went bad. I dont know if Interstate changed its design or fixed the acid leak issue.

The early C5 lead acid side terminal AC Delco batteries were the leakers.
Corvettes never came from the factory with Interstate batteries.

You need to tell that to the advance discount platinum battery that leaked all over my ecu.
Truth is all lead acid batteries will leak some because they have to be vented. So called sealed batteries are still vented, they just don't have removable caps. Although many still do have panels you can pray open. Maintenance free batteries still need water occasionally to live a long healthy life. Charging creates hydrogen gas. Water vapor containing acid still escapes in small amounts. It has to escape or the battery would swell up. That's also why they will explode if you create a spark removing or installing jumper cables.
I have a heating & cooling co. Going on 30 years since I started it.
I have had many differant batteries in that time frame & have come to
The conclusion that the Interstate have held up the best over any other
That I have tried in the last 15 years. They seem to outlast the warranty
& the dealers take care of you if one doesn't make the warranty.
I have 10 vehicles & I would not buy any other battery.
I just replaced the battery in my 04 Z06 with one.
