Question. No one ever talks about the Corsa exhausts and HP increase. I just ordered a Pace car set up and am not planning on installing the X pipe. I ordered it purely for the sound. But I am curious is there any HP gains? I also have a Blackwing installed.
Thanks!
exhaust, probably zero. maybe 5. blackwing, I've heard anywhere from 5 to 20. depends on the conditions and the car. I installed a blackwing and stingers and, while I haven't dyno'd the car since (or prior), I can't really tell a difference. it's psychological gain to me. :D
From what I read here, pretty much everyone says there's no gain with the after market exhaust. Sound enhancement only.
That's funny, Corvette Fever magazine just did a test with the new Corsa Titanium Street exhaust on a Z06 and gained almost 10 HP. Musta been a bad dyno. :D

My friend...let me tell you this--in the most friendly way possible:
DO NOT BELIEVE WHAT YOU READ IN CAR MAGAZINES...EVER
Those writers are incompetant fools that are paid to look knowledgeable to a bunch of ignorant people that don't understand the difference between rear-wheel horsepower and crank---they just get off to the pretty pictures...
These are the people that report a best 1/4 time for the 2002 ZO6 as 12.9 or so, when there are a MORE than a few people on this forum that have taken a BONE STOCK--TO THE PAPER FILTER 02 ZO6, to low 12 sec 1/4's...as in 12.1!!!!!!!
My friend, you are now talking to the people that DRIVE these dream machines...we don't just get a half hour to test them as best as we can to print the results--we LIVE to learn and improve these cars--
Trust us--we know more than MotorTrend EVER will about what these cars are capable of---

MDL... Chill out! I was just reporting what CF gained on back to back dyno runs. As "incompetant" as the writers are, I don't think that they would lie and report a 9.5 HP increase. JMHO.
Hey man-- you took what I said too personally:D
I meant no personal insult, I just wanted to point out that every # that these mags come up with is usually grossly wrong in street reality---and not consistant with peoples real-world experience.
I don't mean to imply that they outright "lie", but if they report a 10 HP increase, I promise you it's a flywheel gain, NOT a Rear-Wheel one-----which would be a fraction of the advertised crank gain...
Anyhow-- I do NOT seek to discredit you at all bud-- you, as far as I'm concerned, are an honest enthusiast, so you have all the respect I can give :yesnod:
I simply seek to educate those that are led to believe everything that they read in these car rags, since the #'s they report are VERY often disproven in real life--with everything from Corvettes to Mustangs to Metro'sb... :yesnod: :)

Just installed Corsa Touring, w/ my mods, and got 8 rwhp, ~ 10 net hp.
I didn't feel anything when I installed the Indy's nor the Blackwing. While both mods could have produced 10 to 15 RWHP I doubt you'd feel it. Do they make me FEEL GOOD - you bet. It's more for the ego than anything. Way too many claims from vendors and individuals that report "great SOTP" improvements with whatever THEY bought. I don't believe half of what is published and the other half I cut that in half again because no two cars, individuals etc perform alike.
Have a Safe and Happy Memorial Day. Fly the Flag, thank a Vet and remember - Freedom Isn't Free.
I agree with you guys on the over exagerated HP gains that are usually talked about regarding intake and exhaust mods.
Now, I don't mean to temporarily change the subject here, but what REALLY makes me  is all the hype over that 03 SVT cobra and their so called 380 hp numbers. There are a number of different comments that could be made about this, but what most comes to mind is "didn't they learn their lesson yet?"
I guess publicity is publicity - good or bad...

Dude, you're going WAY overboard with that statement! Car & Driver drove a 2001 C5 vert 0-60 in 4.5 seconds and the 1/4 in 13.1 seconds, both very typical of posted times here in the forum. The same mag drove a 2002 Z06 0-60 in 4.0 seconds and the 1/4 in 12.2 seconds. Again, these numbers match the real world of "experienced" drivers.
Corvette Fever is NOT going to pull an engine just to measure NET HP changes. That doesn't make sense. The easiest way to measure changes in HP due to mods is by measuring RWHP and that's exactly what they did. Remember, it was the titanium exhaust on a Z06, so the same exhaust on a coupe or vert may not show as much of a gain.
I've got the Indy's and the only change was to a good sound. The report in Corvette Fever sounds reasonable to me. The Corsas that they tested were totally different than what most of us have. For the most part, they are straight pipes that re-route the sound waves to cancel noise.

Re: Corsa HP Increase? (snowwolfe)
FWIW -
In the Fall issue of Corvette Quarterly, there is an advertisement for Corsa Indys, in which they state 8 - 10 HP increase. The Devil, as they say, is in the details. What car configuration, conditions, flywheel, RWHP, etc. Nevertheless, unless they can back it up, they are liable to charges of false or deceptive advertising.

I would guess that they can back it up….However, you have to understand dyno numbers before you can effectively use them. Almost anyone can show a huge improvement on the dyno if they are clever…and not entirely honest. I can illustrate by the dyno chart below. It clearly shows that I am a fantastic tuner because I was able to gain over 13 HP and almost 14 lbs of torque. or does it? I can honestly say that both dyno runs were made with the same car (mine), on the same Dyno (at a reputable shop), on the same day, with the same operator…..With absolutely no change to the car!
The only difference is in the correction factor. The C5's performance is not as dependent on changes in barometric pressure, humidity and temperature as earlier vintage cars. The CF for run 14 was .94 and the CF for run 19 was .98. Both correction factors were correct for the time of day that the runs were made. If you look at the non corrected numbers on the dyno sheet below…you will see that in reality the power was nearly identical between the two runs (1 hp and 2 lbs torque).
The moral of the story is….Understand the numbers you are looking at! :)

Re: Corsa HP Increase? (Charley Hoyt)
We are still talking about, 10 HP increase, AT MOST. Which, amounts to 3% increase for most C5s. I defy anybody's "seat of the pants" sensitivity to detect that small a difference.
