I have found a 98 corvette, with grinding issue in 4th gear. The car still goes into gear, but just grinds going in. I think this is a syncro, but i'm not sure. (insight needed) But is there any common issues with the 98 cars vs the later models...With the fbody cars everyone knows to kinda stay away from the 98's is it the same with the Corvettes. Any input would be appreciated before I go look at the car. Where there any transmission changes or rearend revisions...Anything?
My 98 has been good to me. Then again, 3 engines, 3 tranny's and diff's., 3 torque tubes, 3 suspensions, 3 sets of seats, 2 steering wheels and a complete stereo later, it's just about where I want it.
Not a single mod was "needed".
I got a good price on my car back in 04 knowing it was going to see a lot of modifications. If you're not up to it, find a 2002 or later. They got most of the bugs out by then.

I would be more concerned on WHY the 4th gear shift grinds rather than anything else--Typically means it was driven hard /beat on and speed shifted too many timesHow does the clutch feel and the rest of the shifting ?? and strange noises ? Depends on the price too--
