Hey guys, This is my introductory thread to this forum and I PROMISE you that I have searched quite a bit before posting. How I came to this site was this. I am a LONG time member of ls1tech.com and just traded my 02 WS6 Sunset Orange Metallic TransAm for my first Corvette.
2000 Navy Blue/Black C5 M6 with 69k miles. The only reason I made the trade was because this car has the column lock on the display and wont move more than a few feet. So I actually traded my TransAm in on the vette and the dealership I work for OWES me money lol..
Anyway, moving on. I have read alot on this subject and literally have only managed to confuse myself. I have a 2000 M6 C5 that has already had at least one of the recalls done as my steering wheel does NOT lock anytime.. I get the column lock message at times and other times I get pull key and wait 10 seconds.. I have tried beating the column while turning the key, I have tried putting a jump box on the battery while starting it and no go on either.. I did order a CLB from Corvettes of Houston and had it sent two day air but from what I am reading it wont do me any good unless I can get the message off the display.. I am simply looking for a series of other ideas to try while I wait for the column lock bypass to come in.. i would really like to limp this car home if I can so i can at least get it clean up, waxed, and all that while I wait.. I have read about jumping a relay under the dash, I have read about removing a "k harness" as well as the other two I already tried but I have no idea where the harness is or if I have one and have no idea what relay to jump.. Thanks for any helps guys!! I know its been covered a million times on this forum but all my searching (literally all day today) has just got me confused where to go from here.. I have a 10k paper weight
I even read the sticky on this.. Maybe I am just stuck and have to send her to the dealership.. Hoping for better news than that

I'd strongly advise against going to the dealership for this issue, they do not have an effective fix. See if you have the GM K harness recall done and post back. It looks like this:
And it's located under the drivers side knee bolster.*
Thanks to everyone and especially 8VETTE7.. That had to take you some time to write that up and its much appreciated.. I have tried with both a battery charger hooked up to the car and a jump box hooked up with no luck so the low battery voltage doesnt appear to be an issue with mine. I will removed the K harness and report back shortly.. I guess if that doesnt work I will simply have to be patient and wait for the CLB to arrive. After the CLB arrives I will see if the purple wire mod is on the passanger side, if it is, do I simply unplug the relay and install the CLB??.. Thanks for all the help again..

IT WORKED!!!! removed the K harness and it fired right up with no issue.. Should have the CLB in a couple days and I can put this crap behind me Thanks again everyone
Question about your column lock. Does the column lock with no key in the ignition????
I also have an LMC5 on the way because my column does lock when the key is not in the ignition, and I've been lucky so far. I do have a question though, as after reading the sticky thread I'm still a bit unclear. I have a 2000 6-speed manual that obviously has not had the recall fix performed. After I install the LMC5 will I need to have a re-program done to prevent the 2 MPH fuel cutoff, or am I good with the LMC5 installation only?
Mine has already had the recall cause the steering wheel never locks. No matter if the key is in or out.. I realize now that the CLB is just going to act as a "fail safe" and I waisted the money to have it sent 2 day air but hey, you live and learn.. Without sounding cocky I know my F-Body's like the back of my hand (owned 9 of them) but now I am a fresh newbie again as I know nothing about the Vettes.. I have been reading this site pretty much nonstop and aleady learning a lot. Hopefully one day I can contribute but for now I will be plucking all of you're brains for info
You're right, they did do the recall fix. Not only did they perform the original recall fix, they also performed another one in 2004 that replaced the original one that had a recall on it.
So now I guess I need to find the relay and wiring and pull it out before I put the LMC5 in. After that I'll be heading up to LG Motorsports as originally planned and having the 2 MPH limit on the PCM bumped up to 225. I'm just hoping that my standard run of bad luck does not extend to discovering an acid-soaked PCM....
In the meantime I'll be swapping out clutch fluid and looking for any other preventative fixes I have to complete before heading to Arizona at the end of summer. It's a damn good thing that I enjoy working on my cars.
The service manager that I spoke to said that the relay/wiring in mine was replaced twice, and that the second one was in 2004. He didn't get more specific than that, but just looking at the Carfax report that came with my car when I purchsed it, the previous owner was a very good customer at the Chevy dealer the car was originally purchsed from. From your post, I'm assuming he had a problem before 2004 and then brought the car back in when he received the recall notice. Either way, as soon as the LMC5 gets here I'll be taking care of the problem for good. Thanks for all of the info.
