Default Steering Issue

I have 2001 coupe and tires are wearing perfect, but the faster I drive the steering feels very odd, it feels like the steering is moving around by its self. At normal speeds no issue but high speed does not feel safe. Had alignment 5000 miles ago about 2 years ago and notice it some and wrote it off as maybe just the road. Could it be a bad alignment or somthing else, Thanks

Is your car stock height? How fast are you talking about? I've driven poorly lowered cars that get very very light in the front at 180mph or so. Feels like you are basically floating and is definitely not a comforting feeling.

Although nothing was as bad as the ACR Viper I took to 195ish (speedo indicated, not GPS confirmed) and had essentially ZERO steering wheel resistance. Found out later how incorrect the coilover setup was.

Also, is your stock air damn in place below the radiator inlet? That could greatly affect the air entering underneath the front of the car as well.

Jack

How old are the tires? Sounds like they are tracking. Did it all of a sudden start or gradually getting worse.

Lowered on stock bolts and the speed I'm talking about starts at 90 plus it feels like its driving its self.

I am having the same problem it feels like the car is all over the place and I have a aci splitter and I don't think that is the problem I was thinking it could be the ball joints or the rack but I need to fix mine as well it's very difficult driving the car at high speeds

I am gonna say alignment, my car (purchased in March) was a bit unstable at higher speeds and would wander and was just plain spooky.

I had a pro shop (Phoneix) Align and corner balance the car. Get someone that knows what they are doing and a good custom alignment.

before I had front and rear toe-out, now the car is just dead stable at any speed.
