I cranked up the 2003 C5 the other day and was greeted by the messages "Service ABS, Service Active Handling & Service Traction Control". This happend after a dead battery start attempt. Just got the "click click click". Charged it up, started the car and immediately got the new messages. Could it possibly be that the ECM got a scrambled error message from a low reference voltage? If so will the message correct itself or is there a potential real problem?
Is there a way to clear that message and see if it re-sets?
you can clear it out by turning the key on....hold down OPTIONS and press FUEL 4 times quickly to bring up the DTC codes....hit reset to clear codes ...
No codes are shown. Just the "Service ABS, Traction Control and Active Handling" messages. I tried the ground block that is attached to the left side but it looked perfect and had no effect.
Any suggestions?
I understand that it could be the Steering Position sensor or the EBC module mounted on the traction control block between the engine and the radiator.
Any other possibilities?
I get the same message on occasion on my 2002 Z06. Since I do not drive the car much, I suspect it may be associated with low battery voltage when I don't have it on a trickle charge.
So far, the message goes away on restart.
I think these vehicles are finicky on battery strength.

Jeff....
How did you check the codes? Did you follow the procedure for checking them on the DIC or go to some place that has an OBDII scanner? The DIC can show all the codes present on the car just like a Tech 2 an OBDII scanner can only read about 55% of the codes that can show up on the car.
Those messages don't show up unless there is a code in the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) the Engine Control Module (ECM) has nothing to do with them. The EBCM is mounted to the Brake Pressure Modulator Valve (BPMV) which is on the drivers side between the alternator and the radiator. It is very strange you did not see some codes either as current codes or history codes so that is why I am asking how you checked the codes. If you went to a an autoparts store or a friend to use a scanner check them with the DIC instead.
Without codes you are just whistling dixie while rowing up the proverbial crap creek using your hands as paddles.

As Bill said in his post, you have codes if you have the messages. If the messages are gone you still have the codes in history. Sounds like yours was related to the bad battery. Reset the codes using the dic and with luck they won't come back.
