After coming home from my Richard Petty experience
I hit the on-ramp to the Turnpike pretty hard.. I had T/C kick on when I hit 3rd...
And I kept going to ill I got to 120..Then I back down to 79mph and tapped the cruise control button and NOTHING happened...Weird...I thought...must have died.. it work on the way up..
Kept trying to set it for the next 1/2 hour.. Nothing.. then I had to pay a toll on the TPK and stopped. When I got back to 79 again the Cruise WORKED!
I am thinking it had the smarts to see T/C went on at about 60mph and that the roads were dangerous i.e. raining (NEVER USE CRUISE in the RAIN)
Once I stopped it reset the conditions. What do you think?
Re: Strange Cruise Control behavior... (chuckster)
I had the same thing happen on a long road trip last month. I noticed that my Cruise Control would not engage, like you described. Some friends that were following me called to tell me to quit riding the brakes. Well I wasn't doing that at all. It seems that my brake pedal had not returned all the way, leaving my brake lights on, and prohibiting the cruise control from engaging. The remainder of the trip home I would check the CC to see if it would come on, when it wouldnt I would lift up on the brake pedal with my toe and it would work. I think there is a TSB on some booster or something.....

Bikerduude, you beat me to it. Check to see if this is the problem chuckster. the same thing happened to me on my '01. Looks like it's off to the dealer for you! Good luck!

HI there,
Along the same vein as the booster, you may also have a slightly misadjusted brake switch, which will also create the same concern.
I would have a look at this as well.
Maybe you will NOT have to see the dealer.

Can someone let me know where/how exactly to adjust the brake switch? My CC rarely works unless I use my foot to hold the brake pedal UP, so I'm pretty confident that the switch is the issue, and I would like to avoid a dealer visit if possible.
Hi there,
Simply remove the lower dash hush panel, and look at the top of your brake switch. You will see a switch, sitting in a plastic collar, within the brake pedal assembly.
Push the switch forward, against the brake pedal, until you see the pedal start to move forward, and you hear a ratcheting type sound. Then simply pull up firmly on the brake pedal, until you hear it make the same sound. Do NOT yank on it, smoothly pull it up.
This should set your brake switch correctly.
