I have a 98 convertible with the power seats on both sides. On the driver's side, the seat will move fore and aft about 1/4", which is just enough to be annoying when applying the brakes or accelerating. The right hand seat doesn't do this. The car only has about 16K miles on it, so it's not worn out from use. Any suggstions as to how to correct this? I normally don't work on cars newer than late 60's, so I don't have any reference material.
You are another victum of "rocking seat syndrone". The GM solution is a new seat riser set (rails and adjustor). Unfortunately, the price for this little diddy is around $700 installed and it will break again. Unless you have extended warranty, the hi-tech solution as stated above is the most effective way to deal with it.
Well, fortunately I do have an extended warrenty. It's a real PITA to take the car to the dealer and I had hoped there was a simple solution. I wonder about the 4X4, since the seat runs to the full aft position every time the key is turned off. I presume this feature has to be disabled if you take the "low tech" route. Besides which, the 98 is my wife's car. She ain't gonna go for the lumber yard fix. Thanks for the info.
Just had to post. I came up with the 4x4 idea in a post a while ago. Since I posted it I have taken a lot of ribbing about putting a 4x4 in a $50,000 vette. To me it was easier and safer then taking it to the dealer plus it worked great. I put a black towel over it so you can not even tell it is there. I am glad to see that others have tried it and it worked for them too.
You guys got the rare Lazy Boy feature. In 40 years cars with this little known option (COPO) will be worth a zillion dollars. And you thought a 36 gal fuel tank was special.
