When I start the car after it has been parked for several hours (overnight or for 9 hr at work), the clutch pedal effort is very nice and easy. With continued driving during the course of a day (not necessarily continuous driving, and well beyond getting all fluids hot), the pedal effort increases noticeably.
Anybody else have their clutch pedal stiffen up during the course of the day?
Looks like it!
I was hoping for some insight on this. Mines always been that way. Seems the hotter I get the car the firmer the clutch feels. I don't like that much. I really prefer a softer clutch.
Well, the hydraulic systems for the clutch with these cars are pretty notorious for needing clean fluid and replacement over time. Specific to your issue though...that's a tough one.
There is an assist spring on your pedal...maybe it's possible it's experiencing some type of fatigue failure. I've had that spring break completely before. It should be noted many people do remove the spring for more pedal "feel", as it assists you pushing in the clutch, not in the return of the pedal to the top.
Was the fluid just SUCKED out of the master cylinder reservoir and refilled OR was the fluid completely bled and exchanged totally?
The dust and crud in the bell housing can cause a lot of issues. It also gets VERY hot in there. If the slave is very dirty, the dirt and heat may well be causing the slave to bind after it heats up.
Check out this post and maybe consider venting and cleaning the bell housing:
The fluid was supposed to be swapped out in a Ranger-like procedure. I got the car last November with 16k on it, and no history regarding the clutch/clutch fluid.
