Default Buying a mild built ls6 HELP!

hey guys,

so i'm a new c5 owner and already wanting more power..... found someone with a motor they want to sell but i really would love help knowing what's a good deal and if this is a good fit for me.

the car is a c5 vert with a p1 procharger on it with shorty headers and corsa mufflers.

i'd like to make more power but now sure if i should do heads/cam/intake and pulley tune or motor pulley tune etc...

what i know about the motor from the seller.

all parts were bought brand new and i guess the motor was used for edelbrock to dyno test intakes.

ls6 block stock bore
forged manley pistons
forged scat crank
afr 205 heads but the heads say 15 0 on them which i think are 225 heads
tony mamo blowe cam 114 lsa comp 224/228 581/588
slp high flow high cap oil pump
dual roller timing chain

no intake but said he would give me a ls6 intake

also i'm thinking i would go fast 102 intake and 102 t/b but is that really better if it's boosted?????

so my question is what is a great deal on this motor? also would this be ok for boosted and i guess to what point do you think?

this is all i know about the motor, pretty sure it's stock 10.5 compression

really really grateful for some help and ideas.

down the road i would like to be able to get a bigger blower and really make 750+whp .......

thanks again and happy to have the c5

How well do you know the seller? Does he have receipts/docmentation of what's in it? Who built it [and does he know what he's doing], and is there a build sheet with clearances, ect? How much abuse has it endured?
Who tuned it, and is there a dyno sheet?
WHY is it being sold?
It could be a screaming deal, or not.

I have only known him about a month. i am very new to corvette's however i have been to his shop where he has 3 or 4 vette's one a zr1 and the guys who referred me to him say he is a very stand up guy.

i really don't know any thing else and he doesn't either. no receipts, no build sheet, no clearances, not sure how many hours it was used as a dyno test motor. dont know who built it.

he is selling cause he was going to put it in a classic car but is going to stay with a classic car motor now.

he says it came from california from edelbrock .......

i did ask him to call whoever he could to try and find out more info.

so that being said what would you offer price wise?

thanks a ton

Hard to say. You are taking a chance. Is it worth it? Maybe.
Is the engine in car where you can drive it or at least run it?
Leakdown test?
What sort of rings? Ring gap? [Important for FI]
Is he offering any sort of warranty through the shop?
As a general rule I usually offer used items at half of new prices, so do a little research on the componant prices new and what things go for on the forum then go from there. The AFR heads are great and in high demand, for example.
Also compare with prices from HKE or Texas Speed or other vendors what an equivilant short block goes for. mind you those would be fresh and have some sort of warranty.
I'd feel him out to find out what he wants, and based on the above, you have to decide if its worth the risk.
Also since he has it there, you might buy it conditional on a partial teardown [assuming the leakdown is OK] just to find out whats really in there... pull the pan, random clearance check on a rod and main, pull the heads to see bores/piston tops, front cover to check cam #s... might be money well spent.
I don't think the larger TB will help all that much with the blower but some others hopefully will chime in on that.
Hope this helps.

yea i am excited to get more power but worried about not having documentation. just knowing what i/we know which isn't much. what would be a price? it's on a stand, can't drive it or hear it run.
