Default Windshield wiper fluid went wack

I started the car today at lunch and the wiper fluid just kept spewing out the eyelets. It just kept pumping until it was out of fluid almost. wipers where not on. It didn't seem as if the button on wiper control arm was stuck. Any ideas on cause? anyone else out there have this happen?

2002 vert 74k miles.

Also have noticed a grown in steering wheel/column as I turn the wheel. I was thinking just a gasket or something expanding, but still continues.

thanks for any input.

I've never heard of this before, but it sounds like either the pump or the switch shorted somehow and froze in the "on" position.

Thanks for reply. Yeah, something made the unit start a pump'in away. I was just wondering if this had happened to someone else and a place to start look'in. Somedays with these things, a new querky problem shows up. Then goes away for a while and then sure as hell to come back again. At least the DIC will tell me I'm low on windshield wiper fluid.
