Default Tailpipe rattle help

Thanks for reading my post I just got a 99 c5 conv and noticed the rattle noise coming from the tailpipe it looks broken and held on by 2 screws. Ok called a local dealer spoke to a service writer they said they where familar with the problem and it would cost 1k bucks to fix it with a complete new pipe. And I told them I had the extended gm warranty and i was told it was not covered.I
I just want to know if thats correct or can it be spot welded . They also said since the car had 14k miles she would let me know next week maybee they can work something out. Well thats it folks you helped me in the past and really value your opinion I only hope I can help someone myself someday.
HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY ALL JOHN :chevy

Vettenut99,
You might have the service writer check the service history of the car. It will show wheather it is a Federal or California emission equipped. Since exhaust is part of emmission system it has a longer warranty period for time and mileage. If that fails and the break is at the H-pipe to the flange (near the trans/diff) the H-pipe can be removed easily, TIG welded (not MIG) and reinstalled. Good Luck. :seeya

Vettenut99,

The exhaust system should be warranted for at least 36K miles.....more than likely for at least 50K...possibly more, since it is emissions related. It seems to me that you shouldn't have to pay anything to get the problem fixed. Before you spend money on it, wait for some more replies to your post. I just don't think you have to lay out $1K to have it taken care of.

Good luck.
