blackwing to easy
installed black wing this morning took about 45 mins.would have been faster but couldnt figure how the stock box came out .how does the car breath with that stock air box .drove it a little felt stronger. the streets were wet so i couldnt jump on it like i wanted to . :yesnod:
Not very well, that is how it breathed with the stock system! You will really enjoy the Blackwing, IMHO, it is the best single performance mod you can do.
It is not a requirement but I would highly, highly recommend the hood seal for several reasons. First and formost, it prevents water from getting on the filter element, which could lead to hydrolock on open element filters like the Blackwing. Second, it helps to pressurize the air filter area which gets the filter more air to breath, and thirdly it helps keep your engine bay clean, so in other words get one, they are too cheap not to. :chevy
How did you guys get the lower (towards the front) grommets on? I have a hard reaching down there (hood is in the way). Any tips? Thanks..
Bill
...yeah, do what I do...bend waaaaaay over to the point where you pull a muscle in your leg then you can reach....  ..no easy way that I know of

What is hyrdolock?
And how does he rubber weatherstrip hood seal prevent it?
Is this a common occurence with the Donaldson filter?
I lubed all the mounting post with silcon and the thing just about installed itself. If it wasn't for the worm gear being incorrectly installed (the screw facing down preventing the assembly from laying flat and snugging down on the top posts) I could have done it in 15 minutes.
It's a first class product but a word of warning. I upgraded from the 02 LS6 lid and K&N filter and have not noticed any performance gains. Now junking the OEM setup in favor of the B/W will yield some SOTP improvements. Guess I used up all my SOTP improvements when I installed the LS6 lid.
I went this route as Exit28 had a great deal, I already had a hood seal so I sold mine. Then I sold my LS6 lid/K&N filter for $75 so my out of pocket came to $110. Since I'm searching for 320 RWHP I may not actually feel any GREAT improvement installing the B/W but I may have picked up a few more ponies towards my goal of 320 HP.
My LS6 set up yielded 8 RWHP gain on a dyno and that was without benefit of a PCM re-learn, I dyno'd got a base line of 285 RWHP, pulled the OEM lid installed the LS6 lid/K&N filter and re-dyno'd at 293 RWHP. So like I said I may have already tapped into any FREE HP before installing the B/W.
I am noticing a significant improvement in power with my Blackwing. Could be due to the Stingers also, B.W.'s are especially good for 00's and older because of the SUPER restrictive airbox. I can't believe I waited so long to remove my stock airbox! :smash:
be prepared to be possibly diappointed...unless you want to re-program things $$. I was running way too rich after the install. (dyno'ed ~500 miles after install)
Glad I kept the stock unit, it will be going back on...

Hope your experience is different:thumbup:
Your Stock 02 Z06 dynos good at approx. 360hp(Already a good breather) My Stock 00 LS1 at approx. 305hp(poor breather) will net a good gain. :yesnod:

Put the Blackwing in the vicinity of the mounting posts. Then walk around the front of the car and reach down between the hood and the front end fascia. Feel for the posts and grommets , line them up and pull the Blackwing towards the front of the car - holding on at the bottom (grommet area) of the unit. Works for me-darn near gave myself a hernia trying to push it on from under the hood !
