Thanks guys for the additional tips and moral support :D I decided to hold off awhile on the install so I can really judge if there is a SOTP difference. Im going to wait another couple of thousand miles (only have 600 so far).
And how does he rubber weatherstrip hood seal prevent it?
Is this a common occurence with the Donaldson filter?
Hydrolock is caused by water entering your engine via the air intake(through the air filter element). If not having a hood seal causes you to have a hydrolock occur, then you better have your hood alignment checked. You must have about a six inch gap up there!
If you have a blackwing and don't have a performance hood seal, I really don't think you need to worry about hydrolock from water entering under the small gap at the front of your hood. It is a good idea to have one to keep your engine bay cleaner and preventing "a drop or two" of water from entering the engine bay when washing your car.
Dave -- thank you for clearing that up. I had always thought that hydrolock ocurs when the opening of the intake (meaning the tube, not the filter itself) is so completely submerged, that the engine acutally sucks water instead of air. As you know from McDonalds, it's hard to get soda up a straw funless the straw end is completely submerged in the soda. The infamous Halttech TRIC always had the greatest potential for hydrolock, gven that it extened the intake tube through the radiator shroud down to near the road (like a vacumn cleaner).
The hood seal is an about one inch by one inch piece of weatherstripping along the front edge of the hood seam. I was confused on how that could prevent hydrolock, and more importantly, how the Donaldson would ever even hydrolock unless the driver was playing U-boat commander. If the Donaldson hydrolocks, the stock filter would as well, given the relative position of the intake tube.
Splashing water onto the filter, even quite a bit, will not cause hydrolock. One, it's oiled, and two, +/- 650 cfm is just not enough pressure to suck the water through the filter.
Your Stock 02 Z06 dynos good at approx. 360hp(Already a good breather) My Stock 00 LS1 at approx. 305hp(poor breather) will net a good gain. :yesnod:
Brad, My stock 99 MN6 car dyno'd 310 before Blackwing and Stingers. I dyno'd this last friday with those mods and pulled 341 (340.7 actually) I was suspect of the dyno till I watched a 2500 mile 01 Z06 with a Vortech dyno 343 right after my pull. I ran 12.88@113.7 with a 2.26 60' and the car was at 239 degrees when I ran so I believe my HP figures to be acurate. Hopefully you see the same gains

Wow, Thanks for the info! Those are truly great gains. My car feels much stronger with those two Mods. I predict a combined 20-25 h.p. but It could be higher. I will be using the same Breathless Dyno when they return from the Cruise In.

Man, that seems high for a 99...or mine is really low. Mine has those mods and it only rang up 308 on Extreme's dyno a few weeks ago. What's up with that????

That is low, Could be many factors: What did Xtreme say about that? Maybe differences in Dyno?
