Ok, hey....several months ago, I got valuable info from ya'll concerning the column lock, and, thanks, as I was able to bring to dealer for the recall. Problem solved, right? Not exactly....I read your post Corvette Ed, and, while you were very informative on the topic, I'm just wondering....why is this happening again? Last nite, I drove it...n..no problem...parked in garage, n left key in it. Went to drive it awhile ago, and wham! This time, however, while I'm getting the "steering column lock" alarm display, the column is not locked up, BUT the fuel still cuts off!!! Any elaborations on this? Will the dealer still make it right, even though I've brought it in already on the recall?? Anyone?

First... nobody can help you without knowing the year of your C5 and whether you have an auto or manual transmission. I see from your profile you have a 2000; is it an A4 or M6?
The dealer fixes do not work... This has been shown to be the case many times. The recall failed; it's pretty much that simple.
Q I had the recall done and now after a few weeks my car is getting the dreaded “Service Column Lock” error message and I can’t drive it because the fuel is shut off. What should I do?
A You have the following choices: 1) return to the dealer and make them fix it; 2) A4 cars - replace or remove the Harness "K" assembly; 3) remove the recall mods and restore to original; 4)MN6/M12 cars only - go into your passenger footwell, locate the relay added by the recall mod, remove the relay altogether and bypass the circuit as described below (my choice).

That is likely what cause the symptoms you are experiencing. The column lock system relies on the key being removed when you shut down the engine to complete the column lock logic cycle. When you left the key in the ignition the BCM NEVER got the signal it needs to send the lock command. As a result when you turned the key to start the engine the BCM discovered that the column was already UNLOCKED when it should have been LOCKED and therefore something is NOT right. You should have received a message to "Pull key and wait 10 seconds". If you had done that (or not left the key in the ignition in the first place) you would have been OK. Since you didn't do that you got the pleasure of experiencing the 2mph fuel shutoff.
Not nice to try and fool mother column lock!!!!!
And this is exactly why I'm heading up to Plano after installing my LMC5 so LG can reprogram my fuel shut-off to 200+. Mother column lock is worse than a woman judge in divorce court.
