Default Which heads for my swap?

Im looking to do a ported headswap on my 99 FRC. It already has a majicstick3 cam in it with stock heads and good springs and a LS6 intake. I was looking into the PRC Stage 2.5 LS6 CNC Ported Heads. Then I seen where people have been doing the PRC Stage 2.5 5.3L CNC Ported Heads on this swap also.

Which heads would produce the most power? 93 oct pump gas.

What cc combustion chamber sould I get?58cc?

Would there be any issues with PTV clearance with the MS3?

Will the .650 springs be good or should I upgrade to the .675's?

Or would the TrickFlow as cast heads be a good option?

Thanks for your help guys

Jimmy

I like Trickflow heads. Good quality. Patriot performance also sells some good heads for the price. 58cc is great for compression and the 93 octane you plan to use. You only need springs that can handle your cams lift. Going more just costs more for no reason. CNC ported heads are expensive, I think that the fast as cast design of the trickflows are an excellent and way cheaper alternative.
You seem to have a pretty good grasp on what to get. Although I think heads are going to give only a 10-15 whp gain. The Compression is whats really going to make the difference. This mod will be more for torque then hp I think.

Jimmy I would recommend you take a look at the 2.5 LS6 heads out of those two. We have had very good results with those matched with that cam. We sink the valves in these heads to create the extra clearance needed for that cam. The .650 springs will hold that cam no problem, you can upgrade if you want the peace of mind though.

We also offer an as cast head that I ended up putting on my 01 Z06. I ended up picking up an extra 30rwhp over a 243 casting head so I would expect even more over a stock LS1 head. Follow this link to them, I think they are a great deal.

So your suggesting the cathedral head over the 5.3 and LS6 2.5's? What about milling them down some for alittle more compression?

Yes I am recommending the as cast over those because they are definitely a better head. Technically they are all cathedral but that is besides the point. Unfortunately we do not like to mill the heads any further with cams as large as the Magic Stick 3, we want to maintain good piston to valve clearance. The heads do start with a 62cc chamber so you will still get a decent bump in compression.

With any of the TF heads, you can mill to achieve desired CR. I highly recommend ordering the CNC'd 215s directly from TEA. They'll work with you to achieve your goals. The added valve angle also lets you go without flycutting.

Also if you go with Trick Flow you DO NOT NEED ROLLER ROCKERS IF YOU GET THE POWDERED METAL VALVE GUIDES VS THE BRONZE VALVE GUIDES. Unless you want to use roller rockers. Just passing the info along

With my TSP 402 and MS3, I was at 460rwhp with Patriot Heads and 500+rwhp with TFS 225s.

Im just not sure what to go with. Id like to have a good bump in compression and make real good power. But dont want to fool with notching the pistons.

And TEA has a program for the 243's which has been proven to make 500rwhp on pump gas with a 23x/24x 112+3.

Good luck with your project......

Thanks..........

How do you go about getting them with the powdered metal guildes? I only see them listed everywhere with bronze guides.

Very Nice

Wonder how these heads would do with the Torque 2 cam?

Call TEA direct. They do the machine work for TF anyway, (they might be owned by the same company?) and you can tell them exactly what you want, and of course, they'll tell you if you're wrong.
