Default Made some 1/4 mile passes- issues

Finally made it back to the Street Fights in Bristol after a 7 year lay off. Last time I was there was in my Buick Grand National running low 11's... anyway...

I have 2000 A4, 150,000 miles, 3.15 gears, all options, convertable. Only mods are from previous owner.. a Vortex CAI and X pipe and exhaust.

Best time was 13.77 at 101 with a 2.1 60ft.

It was really hot but my mph seemed to be off. Launching was terrible. When i left the line the car would stutter. I have the TC off but it acted like it was on. Over in the pits i tried it again, and sure enough.. on or off it would stutter.. If i tried a couple times with the TC off it would finally stop doing that and work correctly.

I tried it in competitive mode with the same results.

Anyway, does that mph seem low? Has anyone had the same issues with the TC and brake torque? Thanks in advance.

Well, the first thing I would have done is see if there any DTCs. Especially in the EBTCM. If you have DTCs, clear them and see if they come back.

Second: Have you ever had the car TUNED? Sounds like your PCM is having issues with a couple of things. You could have had a LOT of KNOCK and the PCM was pulling timing thru (Knock Retard) or you went to the LOW OCTANE Timing tables.

Third: You have an A4 so,, the PCM is most likely applying lots of TORQUE MANAGEMENT to protect the drive train.
Think of it this way: It’s like big brother lifting the throttle after you SLAM IT TO THE MAT to limit the power to the drive train.

You can have the car tuned to prevent all of the above from happening thus, th4e car will be a little fasted and feel a LOT more responsive.

The only way to really know what’s is happening GOOR OR BAD is to DATA LOG the PCM and watch all the critical PCM and engine management data.

For Torque management, if you data LOG throttle angle, you will see it NOT going FULL OPEN when you have your foot to the MAT!

KR (Knock Retard) That’s easy to see in EFI Live or HP Tuners.

Not PCM codes, but i'll check for EBTCM tomorrow.

Stock tune.. nothing but cAI and muffler. I was running 93 octane.

I've got a friend with EFI live that i may try to borrow and do some logging.

Do you think i should just get a mail order tune?

It wasn't wheel hop was it? That can be costly.

did they come out with Competative Driving Mode on the 2000 model year? If they did, try launching in that mode.... it's the way mine works.... I can't even do a good burnout with the TC off..... my tuner says he can fix it no problem, that it was screwed up somehow by several previous bone head tuners.....
I've seen a few C5 at the track with similar problems

Sucky, yes but on a really hot day that is what you get. I could swing 4-5 1/10ths from the hottest days to the coldest days at the track.

I never ran mine in real hot weather. On a 60 degree evening, it ran 13.05 @ 107. In competition mode. The car didn't have enough power to spin the tires. I didn't even atempt to do a burnout.
Someone had removed torque management, and set the TC parameters to 0. I didn't know that until recently.
2000 A4 Coupe, Vararam and an X with Borla stingers.
It better run a whole lot better next month with the mods below.

Agreed with the heat issue. I ran my 97LT1 hundred of times when I had it, and I learned not even to run in the summer heat. If I was looking for good times I'd run in the early spring or late fall. Late fall is THE BEST weather - cool temps, low humidity. In the heat your PCM will retard the timing to avoid detonation and damage. My LT1 would scream in nice cool fall weather (375 rwhp) and fall on its face running in the middle of summer. 1/2 second difference in times is pretty accurate. Run it again in some good cool weather and let us know how much it improves.

Ive tried and did not like the mail order tunes that I had. Your best bet for a remote tune is EFI Live auto cal OR one of the other remote tunes that offer tuning that allows a remote tuner to interface with your PCM via e mail.

You will be MUCH happier with that option.
