Remove the coils and valve covers and re-hook the coil packs so I can check out and work on the rockers?
I know how to take it apart, just don't know the best way to get the electric to the coils and keep them away from the rockers.
It's a bad idea. Get an automotive stethoscope and listen to each rocker with the valve covers on. You can hear everything with that. Then remove the covers and inspect.

Yea this is the best idea unless you want to cut up a set of valve covers so you can run it without spraying oil all over the place...
A few "Don't do its" but not one how to re-connect the coil packs. I used to remove the valve cover to adjust valves on the 1970 Vette I had, so I figure this can't be too different, except for the coils being in the way.

Any one?
Completely different. The only way to do it, would be to use long plug wires, or make an extension for the coil harness. Sure, you could remove the valve cover, and plug up the coils , but then they are in the way for inspection anyway( plus you have to find a way to suspend them)....while the motor is running. So.....have you tried a stethoscope, to isolate the noise?

I realize that I have to move the coil packs out of the way. I was hopping there was an extension for the electric to the packs that was available.
I have listened with the stethoscope, and can narrow it down to one or two rockers. Still need access to the rockers while running to do better, unless, of course, its obvious that the bearings are falling out of one of them.
Listening to them is good. To really figure it out, I think I need to see them in action.

Little confused here Steve. If you have it isolated, what is keeping you from pulling the valve cover, and investigating?
