Default tunnel plate and axleback muffler install

i have a 2000 coupe that i was thinking about changing out the tunnel plate with an elite engineering one. i also have a magnaflow cat back system with the x pipe and i want to change out the axle back part with a titanium z06 one.

my question is, how hard is it to get the center section of the exhaust system off to get at the tunnel plate? it looks like i need to unbolt at the exhaust manifolds and i am not sure how much room there is. i would be doing this with ramps and jack stands. the ramps are about 10 or 12 inches high (i made them from plans i got here on the forum).

another question, how high do i need to get the rear end of the car to change out the mufflers without any cutting? i saw on the forum that it needed to be 30 inches, but i am not sure where that is measured.

for any of you guys that have done it before, is it worth it or should i just take it to a shop and have it done?

the only other thing i have done under the car is to change out the transmission fluid and install the cags eliminator. that wasn't too hard.

thanks

Thirty inches at the ( bottom off the old muffler tips) is probably about right to get the one piece Ti cat back system in.

Once you drop the H pipe, will give you access to the 30 plus tunnel plate bolts.
Remove the bolts & remove the old plate.

I'm not sure if Elite calls for longer bolts with their plate or not.
It would be best to make sure, before starting the job.

to make it safer, I have seen a few guys back up to a loading dock and service the exhaust there, plenty of room but better have a buddy you can trust to spot you positioning the car or you will have a great story for us! Otherwise when i needed to lift a vehicle that high I would use pieces of 6x6 as cribbing then a jackstand up top, unextended. 4x4 truck jackstands (6 ton) are a lot more stable with a lot more lift than the little 2 ton models.

Be careful with the manifold bolts. They break pretty easily. Best is to try them carefully and if they're giving trouble use a small torch flame to apply a little heat. Otherwise, you'll be replacing the studs.

I suggest taking it to a shop to have the t/plate & Ti system installed.

I had not thought of that, but it sounds like a good idea that would be a cheap and easy way to do it.
