HELP!!! Vette making a strange sound!
Just took the 98, MN6 out for a spin, and after a couple of blocks heard this knocking sound. Didn't sound good. No DIC information came on, all gauges read okay. Stopped with the engine running a popped the hood. The sound appeared to be coming from under the fuel rail cover on the left side as you face the car. Upon further listening, it sounded like it MAY be coming from further down, like something below the engine. About that time it started smoking, but not a lot. The smoke appeared to be coming from somewhere further below the engine. All fluid levels are ok. Could it be the power steering pump, even though everything appears to be operating okay? I'm sick, Just spend the last 2 days applying Zaino and wanted to cruise today. :cry

UPDATE. Started the car again in the garage with the hood open. Sound is definately coming from down below, close to the harmonic balancer. Whatever the "component" is just to the left of the balancer is where the noise appears to be coming from. What component down there is driven by the serpentine belt? Is this the power steering pump. Please help! :confused:

try taking the serpentine belt off and then listen.Smoke coming from where? what color was it?Is it a knock tap or what...need more information..
