Is it slipping? I have 89,000 on mine. No slipping and working just fine. If yours isn't slipping I see no reason to change it. If it works, don't fix it.

It's grinding when you put it in gear, stays in gear fine.

I believe GM Parts House sells a clutch kit for $459.

Yup, LS7 set up with clutch, pressure plate and flywheel from GM PartsHouse is the way to go for any normal application and what I will do when the time comes. Grinding noises when you put it in gear? Hmm...are the noises happening when you start to engage the clutch like when the car first starts moving or when the clutch is fully engaged and your foot is off the clutch pedal or when you first push the clutch pedal in? Of course if you do the clutch you want to get the throw out bearing, pilot bushing, and slave cylinder with remote bleeder.

Goes into gear fine, grinding occurs when I lift off the clutch.

If you had an issue with your clutch/clutch hydraulics, it would be difficult to get INTO gear. Grinding is most likely shifter alignment or internal transmission issue.

Why would you recommend a heavier clutch/flywheel combo on a stock ls1/6?

All it will do is make the engine feel lazy and spin up slower.

My bad. I didn't know that an LS7 set up was heavier. I thought just more clamping force. I know in my case I've gone with all the basic mods and am up around 400 crank hp so I would like a little tougher set up than stock.

Default Clutch

The LS7 clutch will work. The flywheel is heavier but can get a lighter one if worried about rotating mass. Drivability is easy & smooth and can take some power no problem. Really depends on your horsepower level now or if you plan on adding more in the future.

I see alot of guys that are alot smarter and have alot more experience than me on here going with the LS7 clutch. There must be some reason that it is the hot set up right now. The guys at GM PartsHouse list that set up. It must be pretty popular for a reason.

Your average corvette owner simply sees "ls7" and automatically assumes its the best choice for them because its an ls7 clutch.

The real answer is that "it depends" on a lot of factors that weren't provided in the original post and thats why i made my post. The ls7 setup shouldn't just be the default suggestion.
