WELL,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, if you dont know the history of the differential,,,,,,, IF it were me,,, I would take it apart and inspect it. Its pretty straight forward. I will provide you with a couple OUTSTANDING post that will shed some light on what your need to know about the inner workings of the rear.
IF,,,,,,, you want a more dependable rear,, you can do the C6 ZO6 parts install. At a MINIMUM,,,,,, replace all the seals that can leak (Both output shaft seals and the seal between the trans and diff.

MAKE SURE that you look for a BROKEN BELVIEW SPRING! Very common issue!!

The drivers side will wobble a bit. Being the longer shaft, it gets additional support from a caged needle bearing inside the case once the axle is in.
Broken belville spring is a distinct possibility, mine was that way when I took it apart.
