Default No Lighting on Two HVAC Buttons

I just wanted to double check something. There is no lighting behind the MODE and REAR (for rear defrost) buttons. The LED on REAR does work however when turned on.

Does the HVAC chip soldering fix take care of this? I know it takes care of dimming and whatnot, just wanted to be sure that the lights being completely out will be fixed with this as well.

No, the chip fix is for the display; there are lights that need to be changed for the buttons

I fix them here in CT and FL(mostly for local installs) frequently

The lamps wear out over time. Best to replace all of them at the same time as the rest will all start failing too. Do the same, at the same time, for the radio.

Well the previous owner installed blue lighting for the buttons, and luckily there is no stock radio, so i do not need to worry about that. I just find it odd as the Z06 I had before had the same two buttons that had no letter lighting.

Is this something that I can easily do myself? I am quite good at soldering and dealing with electronics for the most part, however I do not want to touch it if I do not know what I am looking for, ya know?

I found a repair service on ebay. Mail him your controls, he fixes, and send back. Took a few days. Did this 2 years ago and no issues since.

Search for C5 HVAC Repair.

If you are decent with a soldering iron, yes you can do it yourself. Pretty easy job.

So I basically just need to get new or resolder the lights for those two buttons then, correct? Anyone happen to have a picture showing where they are located on the board?

I did mine several years ago with no problems. I got my replacement bulb set from corvetteradios.com

Took my time with the desoldering and resoldering and then ohmed out each bulb to verify I didn't have any of the leads shorted before I put everything back together.

I would replace all of them at the same time if I were you. Two failed, the rest will start failing right behind these.

You have to buy new bulbs anyways, you'll have the unit apart.... finish it right & replace all of them.

The previous owner may have installed LEDs if the buttons light up blue. Normal would have a yellow cast.

You may want to take it apart to check before ordering lamps. Search for the "New LED mod..." thread. This has info on changing just about every lamp to LEDs.

Yeah, possible he used LED's but they shouldn't burn out for like 25000 hours which I doubt has happened. More likely if they're LEDs is a bad soldering connection on the lamps or he painted incandescent lamps with a blue coating. Just in case, LEDs are polarized so if you go to replace them, make sure you understand how they work before putting them in....load resistor on each and etc.

A cheaper source for the lamps might be here:
https://www.jameco.com/webapp/wcs/st...0001_141073_-1

They have others if these T1-3/4's are the wrong size.
