After 12 years of ownership and 111,800 miles on my 2000 its probably time to upgrade to a C6. But in the meantime I need to solve a problem that cropped up yesterday.
When I turn the parking lights on the headlights pop up. And when they are turned off there is a serious grinding noise coming from the right front side of the engine compartment as they go back down. Presumably a headlight motor.
Anyone know what's going on and how to fix it?
BTW 11 years ago I had the dreaded gas gauge suddenly indicating empty common problem and it was fixed under warranty. That showed up again yesterday too - twice. Seems to have gone away now though.
New gears are $18 at the various local parts stores. Naturally the stealership doesn't carry them because they don't repair anything, just replace parts. But they would be happy to sell you a new motor for $440.
Its popular to replace the headlight gears with brass gears so that they don't break again.
Since it looks like you're probably selling your car soon and may not care , but do a search for "brass gears" and you'll find a vendor that sells them. I don't think they're much more costly than plastic gears.
