Okay, I will be installing Z06 shocks on my '99 C5 with the F45 suspension and I've read up on the DIY Radioshack resistors simulators and I've looked at the sets available from vendors. Here's my question:
The DIY method talks about making a simulator at each wheel (total of 4) while the manufactured versions all have 8 sensors, two for each wheel. Why the difference?

Can't tell you about the manufactured version but I made my own using the Radio Shack resistors.
Easy to do, cut the plugs off the old shocks (leave about 12" of wire). Strip the wires back and solder the resistors in place. I used heat shrink tubing over the resistor and bar wires. Actually multiple layers of different sizes and length. The I put a layer of silicone over it and wrapped it in electrical tape to top it off. Plugged the in and ty rapped up the excess cable.
I don't know about the resistor bypass, have read about it, but for me it was inexpensive and no labor involved with removing wheels and cutting wires and solder. Check your local shops...not stealerships!
I printed these instructions and stayed with the tech who did the button pushing. I was charged a half hour labor rate $49.95, well worth, because it I will never fail, get corroded or dis connected http://www.stopforce.com/RPO.html
I have a TECH2 and I am having it updated with a more current version of the Operating System.
I will be at Carlisle. IF,, It updates properly, I will bring it and update your BCM. Give me a PM or repost in this post closer to the week or so before carlisle. I have never used a TECH2 so, it will be a learning process.... I will bring the screen shot of the process to do the F45 elimination procedure.
this F45 thing has become a night mare. There's at least a gazillion posts on the subject and it should be band from comming up again. Try doing a search and makeing up your own mind.
All I can say is, over the past 6 years, I've use the radio shack resistors on 7 different cars and I'm STILL waiting to hear the first complaint.

I have read many of the posts and it's not a matter of making up my mind. I had a technical question regarding the difference between the DIY simulators and the manufactured ones that I had not seen in any other threads.
Perhaps you did not read the original post. If you don't want to read about F45 issues, feel free to, y'know, not click on the thread.

Bill:
That would be great. Thank you for the generous offer. I'll make sure to have plenty of cold beverages ready to celebrate the demise of the F45.
I plan to get the Z06 shocks in sometime in the next couple of weeks - just got out of the hospital and am supposed to be taking it easy. Hope to be feeling well enough by next week to tackle the job. Will either drive it to Carlisle with the codes and the 80 mph limit (Rats, had planned to arrive at the fairgrounds doing 105, but oh well . . . ) or will put in Radioshack resistors on a temp basis.
I'll be back in touch closer to the date.

I'm planing on driving out for the day on Saturday. I'm also looking to ditch my F45. Do the shocks have to actually be removed to disable the system? Maybe I could get in on this too?
At the least I would like to shake Bill's hand for the tip on my R door connector. I will be bringing beverages also.

Nope, they can remain until sometime after you turn-off the option. Just disconnect the controller and get the option turned off. They will just go to full-soft so the car won't ride as firmly.

Thanks. I have been running it on tour anyway. Can't say as I can tell any difference when I switch it to the other modes. Have this annoying low speed squeak and suspect the shocks.
If you drive up to north Jersey I've got my own Tech 2. I'll turn the F45 off for you, free!
I'm not positive about my Carlisle plans yet. I usually do go every year, always at least for one day. Even though I'm registered for this year, my plans are uncertain until that preceding week.
Okay, the Z06 shocks are on the car. Doc's orders are that I am "not supposed to exert myself" for a while and wife gave me the death stare when I said I thought I would be able to tackle the shock replacement over the weekend. So . . . had my mechanic do it today. Was hoping to make this a real bargain switchover so paying for the labor kind of blows that but it's done and I kept the boss happy.
So, Bill, I will be ready for you to work electronic magic at Carlisle. We're probably arriving around lunchtime on Friday and sticking around until late afternoon Saturday. Will pm closer to the time to exchange contact info/make arrangements. Thanks again!

Hey all, any chance I could swipe some tech2 time myself? I will be at carlise on friday and would love to get rid of the 45s! I would definitely pay for the service. If not it would be cool to meet some folks from the forum at least.
