Default Strange DIC problem!

Ok, this is so strange that I had to post it.

On my way to an autocross last weekend, I noticed that my DIC was not allowing me to change the display. I was a little irritated by this and figured I had some type of short in the button panel. The traction control button still functioned fine, so I was content. Then the buttons all suddenly started working. Since then, it has consistently been frozen until the car warms up(about 20 minutes after startup), then it woks fine.

Now the really weird part, I just noticed that my odometer now reads 2mi. This is about the amount of miles I have driven since it started working last. I was really surprised to see this. Now I’m thinking that the problem may be a little deeper than the button panel. Does anyone have any ideas on what might be broken? What module controls the odometer? Oil life remaining and average mpg… all seem to be in line with the actual mileage.

I guess it’s kind of nice to keep the mileage down like this, but I’m going to need this fixed in the long run.

Whoa, are you sure it's your odometer reading 2 miles and not one of the
trip meters? It should take an act of God to reset the odometer!

Changing the mileage on its own would be extremely unusual as this is
not something that should happen, ever!

They mystery continues.

On my way home from work the odometer went back to the normal value of 2,500 mi.

I did a scan for codes and there was nothing there.

Also, when it was reading just 2mi. All threee odometers (regular, trip a, trip b) all had the same reading.

A guess...

A loose conector (wiring harness) somewhere.

When the car gets warm it makes contact as it heats up.

When it is cold it doesn't.

I would check all of your connections. Unplug and plug them
back in. Especially the connectors under the toeboard.

Good Luck!

I painted the stock bracket using Boyd's True Blue Pearl (it's actually metallic) model paint. First I primed the frame gray then 5 color coats got the color pretty close, then 2 coats of clear to seal it in. It matches Electron Blue very closely.

Wet sand between each coat and it will come out pretty decent for a total investment of about $6.00 in paint.
