Default What have we here?

I am stripping down an LS6 engine. It's a motor I never heard run, but it was from another race team. I bought it used when I saw some of the things in the engine (good rockers, good rods, pistons, etc). The engine builder is no longer in business. The engine shut down when the #7 and #8 rod bearings went, perhaps due to detonation. Most of the bearings are scored to some degree or another, but that's not the question.

The cam is not stock as far as I can tell. It says "ISKY" on the end, along with some other numbers:
RR-265-275-HYD
271
13L
113
109C

I don't know from cams. So best guess is HYD means for hydraulic lifters. ISKY is a well known cam maker. 271 might be lift?

Any info on this odd part would be appreciated. I don't want to blindly put this back in the motor after I fix the other issues to find out the cam WAS the causal factor for the breakdown.

I'm pretty sure 271 isn't the lift in a race motor. Isky would certainly mean Iskenderian. Might want to check with them on what the numbers mean. Might well be a custom grind for all ya know. Numbers probably mean overlaps or some center reference, it's hard to say. Might mean an order number for all I know.

Do a google search on that part number you get some hits. It looks like 265 is intake lift, 275 exhaust lift. There is more info out there

I'm not sure about the 271 but I had bought an Isky cam years ago it was called an Isky 300 and the 300 stood for the duration.

I think I found it... Puzzling because this cam is supposed to top out at 6000 RPM. The engine is clearly built to spin fast (light rods, great rockers/valvetrain, Callies crank...) so why use a cam that limits it?

Might the engine have been used with forced induction. Shorter duration as you don't want the blower pushing fuel out the open valves.
