I am shopping around for a head and maybe cam swap on my 2003. It is completely stock except for a Borla Touring exhaust. Can you recommend supporting mods? The goal is to keep it good on gas as much as possible. From what I understand a head swap is a good start. I have to pass NC smog so I do not know if LT's are acceptable and if I should go with or without cats. I also do not want it ridiculously loud since its a daily driver.
Ever think about getting a supercharger? It'll be a little more cost up front but you'll get more power(in most cases) and retain stock like drivability.
If you're set on H/C I'd also do LT's, fast/ls6 manifold, intake, valve springs, injectors, and clutch. You should talk to Arun@CCP, he'll set you up with a great combo for your needs. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...-question.html
We have everything from aftermarket to ported stock casting heads. The packages will include the heads, cam, valvesprings, and pushrods. We also have gasket packages to get everything installed. Like earlier stated its a good idea to think about the rest of the bolt ons at the same time, or else the package won't pick up its advertised power. Feel free to get ahold of me, or anyone at the shop if you have any questions!
To keep good gas mileage it is best to keep it close to stock. I would just do intake and exhaust mods like most people do. A ported/polished throttle can increase economy in some cases too. Heads are expensive and allot of work for little gain if your not doing a cam. And a cam will inherently decrease economy the larger you go. Weight reduction is a better area to focus on to gain performance while increasing economy.
I am having a set of the PRC stage 2.5 5.3L heads from TSP installed right now along with their 228R cam. Hopefully it is supposed to go on the dyno today. Great heads, flow well, up the compression a point or so with the cometic gaskets and for what you get are a great price.
I'd say my targets 2500 on the top end having done this on a star I know the potential. What I have in mind is mainly really good heads & porting and a shaved gasket for 10.5 or 11:1? Stock cam?
-This is my daily and only driver at the moment
Goal is flat even torque and better than stock mpg on pump 93

If you're doing heads I'd suggest doing a cam at the same time. You can throw a smallish cam in there and pick up good power with the heads without making the car unfriendly to drive.

This is a 04 we did where the customer did not want to sacrifice driveabilty or fuel economy. Before and after results.
It picked up 70 rwhp-from a cam and headers and a cold air intake
