Default Head up display

I need some help here, does anyone have an answer to my question?
I'm having an issue with Heads up display in that it is all lit up, with all info & showing 188 mph and is intermittent. if I bang an the dash it works OK for a while then freezes up again or goes blank.
Does anyone know what causes this?
Loose connector, bad ground?
Where do I start looking?

I've never heard of that one either. I've seen mine all light up if the sun's reflextion is just right. Other than that, I've never heard of that happening.

IF she lights up when you "bang" on the dash then you have answered your own question brother. A loose connector. Bad joint, or basically bad connection. Anything electrical internally would NOT be affected by a bump...

Just out of curiosity, have you tried it with your Window Valet removed from the OBDII diagnostic connector?

Just finished doing that, it was working fine again before and after i pulled the window valet.
I'm going to go drive it and if it quits again I'll pull it and see what happens.

This is driving me nuts, sometime it works sometime it don't.
Banging on the dash doesn't help.
Sometimes it goes out completely sometimes it works fine and sometimes it flickers off and on.
Is it a connection or one of the components, I have searched everywhere trying to find out how a HUD works, where does it get the signal from?
I know it is projected onto a lens or mirror to lite up the windshield.
can anyone explain this? It may shed some lite on where I can start to look for an issue. I do not believe its a grounding issue.

It gets it's data signal from the IPC.
If you have all the other functions working, i.e. up/down, mode change, bright/dim, etc then maybe it's the IPC itself. Of course it could be the actual vacuum-flourescent display screen itself in the HUD projector.

If I were forced to guess, I would suspect projector first.

This one's a new one on me too. From all you describe it has to be a loose connector or a bad component. Haven't looked but is there a connector on the HUD projector?

As far as the functions go, up down works, brightness control works,
paging does not work, all display items are lit up all the time or not at all.

More new info;
When the engine is cold at startup it flashes and shows everything, then switches to the correct display, ie rpm, speed etc....Once the engine warms up, it flickers then stays all lit up.
It's got me stumped.

Default Hud

Update, replaced the HUD switch still doesn't work. I'm beginning to suspect the IPC I also read some place on this forum that the serial data connector in the doors could also cause some issues, going to check those tomorrow. I'll keep you posted
mrgil
aw what the hell maybe I'll just buy a new one 2013? or 2014?
