Just installed LT headers on my '04 and stopped at work the other day after running the AC all the way there and, when I was walking away from the car, I could hear something sizzling underneath. As near as I could see, it was condensation coming out of the AC drain hitting right on top of the header.
I looked in the manual today to see if I could find it and re-route it in any way but, of course, the drain they show in the manual is not like the one on the car. The drain they show has a snout on it that looks to be a couple of inches long but mine has about 1/4 inch. They show it to be turned towards the nearest bulkhead so, I assume it's meant to run down the bulkhead to the ground whereas mine has to drip straight down....on to the header.
Anyone ever have this happen with your set up? Think there will be detrimental results with this happening a lot? Any fixes been done? Search wouldn't come up with any thing about AC condensation.
I general,, ALL C5 look and drain very similar. The drain tube changes a little over the years with regards to the end nipple design but,, for the most part it will look very similar to this:
IF,, Someone removes the drain tube, it will look like the drain opening on this removed AIR BOX:
I’ve had mine dripping on the header since 04 and there isn’t any detrimental effects.
Hey,, if its dripping it isn’t flooding the BCM or passengers foot well.
I suppose if you searched , you could find a pre bent radiator hose that could be installed on the fitting and used to redirect the condensation to a better area.
Thanks Bill, that's what the book says mine should look like but it doesn't. Mine has a turn-down but it's only about 1/4 inch.
If my fat hands could reach it and get a hold on it, I might change it to one of those but, previous replies say there's nothing to worry about and since the headers are stainless, I may just put up with the sizzle for now.
My LG Streets do it too, but then I rarely use my AC so it isn't that big of a deal to me. I thought about it and then remembered they are SS so should be harmless.
