NO. if it is leaking ATF from the diff/trans mating surface, then the output shaft seal is leaking from the case into the diff, and THEN leaking out the o-ring.
The only other possibility is someone filled the diff with ATF, and let's pray that didn't happen.

The interface between trans and diff is a very foolproof O-ring fit, so unless the two have been seperated, it's very unlikely that's the source of the leak. BTW, if you have to replace the seal, it's no biggie, if doing the clutch; but otherwise, it's alot of work (or $$$) to replace.
Hey guys. Last night I climbed under there and cleaned it up good. This morning I looked under there and it was definatly red. I took a few pics. I can text them or e-mail them if anyone can help me out.
Thanks
I have my transmission apart right now, Mine was leaking where the seal housing bolts to the transmission. I think it would be difficult to replace the seals without taking this part off the transmission because there are 2 seals in there. One would keep Gear oil or contaminants from entering the transmission and the other to keep transmission fluid from getting out of the gear box. This is not a difficult repair with the transmission/differential out. I'm not even going to replace the seals in mine, they look that good. Evidently GM's gasket maker/sealer has a given life span and its up for the most part in our cars.
thats really interesting, but anything is possible I guess, i'm curious what the differential fluid looks like. because they should be mixing, from the output shaft leaking trans fluid into the diff, and for the leak to still come out red, it would have to be alot of trans fluid in there, what am I missing?

A constant fluid level in the differential. If transmission fluid was leaking out and also transferring to the differential, that fluid level would go up.
FWIW, my 99 is leaking and friends 2001 and 2004 both leak transmission fluid from the 6M transmissions. I have a gut feeling that the leak slows or stops when it's up to operating temperature.
