Default Stealth Box Fitment

I purchased a stealth box with the 10inch JL Sub and I was under the impression it would sit flush in my center compartment. Mine sticks up about 2 inches all the way around in my 02 coupe....is this normal or am I missing something?

Depends on the vendor. Who did you purchase it from? The DoubleD mods one I have, acutally sits slightly below the surface, so the compartment cover can still be used. This was a nice detail I was interested in.

I had to cut the carpet out of the compartment area where the Stealth box goes. Mine sits in flush and I can put the new vented cover that was supplied with my Stealth box over the area and looks stock or stealthy.

Is it a JL Audio Chevrolet C5 Corvette Black Subwoofer Stealthbox like this one?

Yes, that's what I had to do, it dropped in nicely after that.
Make sure you do not cut to much carpet out or you will have some exposed areas.
Enjoy the bass!!!!

That's a shame....you have to butcher the carpet, to make something fit? Poorly designed.......

I just checked the JL Audio site and there is a pdf instal manual and they do in fact tell you to cut the carpet. Here is the link, then just click on the support button then:
