Hey guys on long trips my fuel gauge will stop working and low fuel light come on. Stop a a rest area and it sits a few minutes and it is fine. r Returns to normal. Cap seems to be tight. Around town there is no issue with it, just running about 50 to 100 miles on interstate without stopping is when it acts up. Any suggestions?
A fairly common problem.. I'm sure the fuel transmitters wear just like everything else..
If you do a search you'll find tons of comments and many seem to think Techron fixes the problem.. I'm not sure if it does but it's sure an easy thing to do and pretty cheap so why not..
I had the problem, used techron, the problem is much better, and a lot cheaper than new fuel transmitters..
i added a small bottle of Techron to the tank that was almost empty. drive it 1/2 mile and the gauge start working. that was two years ago and it's still working. i was surprised because i've never before used an additive that did anything.
Has anyone seen this. Fuel gage is at just below 1/2. I go to fill it up and it takes about 5 to 8 miles before it slowly moves to full. When it get to full it goes past F and will stay there until about 70 miles, then it moves fairly quickly to 3/4 and works fine. When I fill it up I don't try to squeeze more in. When the pump stops, I pull it out. I use techron and have not seen the gage to zero issue return in a few tanks. Gage seems to be working, just have those two anamolies.
Sulfur Deposits on the fuel sending units (you have one in each fuel tank) is the problem. Techron is the most effective product out there on eliminating Sulfur deps...

I've had a similar symptom in the past plus the gauge falling to zero a few times. In my case it went to 3/4 and slowly up to full.
As an aside, I've found my gauge is more likely to drop to zero if I let the gas run low. On the previous 2 occasions it occurred when the level dropped below 1/4. I try to keep it above that level and Techron has always worked for me.
If you have any fuel related DIC codes, make sure you clear them when you have the problem.
Ah the infamous fuel thread that will have 1200000000000+ people commenting to buy techron..... then an equal amount swearing seafoam is better..... search fuel sending unit and you will find tons of info you need and in the mean time run a few bottles of techron through the tank hahaha
yes you can buy it at advance and buy the 20oz and pour the whole thing. I didnt see what year you have but hope its prior to 2002 if you have to change the sending unit and check your DIC for a code and post it if there is one present.
