I just recently got the Corsa Indy exhaust and Friday the Blackwing goes in...from what Im reading as far as the next step after those, many say headers...Ive looked in a few different catalogs but where in your opinion is the best place to get them and the BEST VALUE?????? any advice Id appreciate it... :seeya
I was watching Horsepower TV this week on TNN, and they installed long tube headers, x/h pipe and catback all stainless, on an old muscle car, total cost $700. Why is it us C5 folks get ripped so bad on headers/exhaust??
To do that on a C5 would be in the range of what, just under $2k if you used Stingers?

Anything going into a vette costs big $$$$$. It must be a belief that vette owners have lots of $$$$ and can part with it with little pain. I dunno.
I have the RK Sport headers for $795 fully coated. That's about $100 cheaper than the TPIS. They are the same as the TPIS except that they have flanges at the collector instead of the slip fit collector on the TPIS. I carry the TTS too but they're $1095. They go up from there.
I saw that same episode of Horsepower TV also. The worst part of that deal is that the parts supliers still fall all over the 1960-1970's market, yet those cars haven't been produced in over 30 years. How many of those cars can still be left ????
I live in the northeast, you know, the "Rust Belt". I haven't seen a reasonably decent 1969 Chevelle SS in probably 8-10 years! But it's good to know that if I needed parts for one, they're cheap and plentiful!
Well, the best value in headers are clearly the from http://www.stainlessworks.net I picked mine up from there. Full 304L stainless construction, excellent quality and less than $1K. All of the others will be in that price range will be coated mild steel. Here are some pics. Excellent power gains as well. These guys know their stuff especially when you consider they build many of the top tuners headers.
Take a look at the FLP Long tube headers ($1500 complete). They include 2 High Flow Cats, off-road pipes and an X-Pipe, plus all of the clamps, gaskets and hangers, all of which are completely bolt-on (no cutting or welding). Everything is fully ceramic coated inside/out (except the cats) to keep them looking good for years and to keep the underhood temps down. Yeah, the other stainless headers look nice now, but they will turn all shades of colors after a while.

Part of the reason is volume. It cost the same or more to develop headers for expensive cars, but the number that will be sold is low, so they must charge more to recover development costs and to make building them worth while.
You mentioned "Best Value". Everyone's definition of that can vary quite a bit. My 2000 coupe has the LG Motorsports ling tube headers. Can't say enough about the quality and fit. Working with Lou G. is a pleasure. Not many people that have good business ethics like he does. He stands behind his products. As far as I am concerned these headers are woth the money. I feel there are the best value. Products made out of stainless steel are never inexpensive.
My car had a number of other modifications installed with the headers, so I don't have a direct number for the horsepower increase. All I can say is the whole package works great. The car had the Bassani cat back exhaust and "X" pipe. Before the headers I thought the system was too quiet. With the headers it sounds great. Good idle sound. Not too loud driving normal and very authoritative sound on full throttle. Received a lot compliments from my autocross competitors.
Good luck with finding quality and performance for a low cost. You get what you pay for.

I haven't ordered mine yet, but plan to in the next week or so...
I have been swamped at work and haven't had a chance. I need to find a lift to do the install. I have heard that doing it on the garage floor is a pain in the neck (pun intended). If I have to, I will attempt it on the garage floor though.
