Default Alternator rebuild kit

Anyone know where I can find a rebuild kit for a 2002 C5? I'd rather rebuild the alternator myself.

Parts store's used to carry them buddy. But not too many people still know how to rebuild anymore. Funny how something as cheap as a regulator can cause you to buy a whole new darn alt though huh! Best of luck, if it were me I would try napa..Advance and autozone would likely not have them in stock. napa may..

I mostly need the bearings, but yea it's not too hard to rebuild them. Didn't think NAPA would have it. I'll try them.

**UPDATE**
Just called my local NAPA and they told me they haven't carried rebuild kits in 12 years. Wonderful.

I did find this, but I'm not sure if this is all I need to replace the bearings. Alternator makes a horrible noise.

Just wanna ask another alternator question but what tool is needed to remove the pulley from the alternator? Has a star shape to it and deep inside it has a torque looking bolt. Looks like a clutch, cause when I turn the pulley and hold the center, it will move.

Something like this maybe?

**EDIT**

Ok so the pulley is a ADP and does need a special tool. I'm betting that rebuilt alternators just use regular pulleys, cause it's cheaper.

If you need rebuild parts, I have a friend with an auto parts store 200 yards out my door at work, and he carries a lot of alternator parts. Those he doesn't have, he'll get if possible. If interested, pm. Also, if looking for bearings, I buy a lot of them at work, and if you can get me sizes, I can probably get you source for a great deal on them.

Last time I did an alternator rebuild, was for a 93 Pontiac. He had all the internals in stock. (funny, had to special order wiper blades for the same car!)

Thanks, as soon as I get the tool to rip open the alternator I'll be sure to. Ordered the MN3400 from MetalNerd.

I just called a minute ago. He says Standard Ignition stops listing parts of the internals for Corvette alternators in 1996. Looks like they quit with the C4.

Well, the bearings are still available!

I was told that they stopped selling alternator rebuild kits because most alternators now require unsoldering the heavy gauge field leads, before the case halves can be separated to get at the internal parts.

This requires a high wattage soldering iron because the field connections are heavy gauge wire, and the solder used, on alternator field connections, has a higher melting point.

I would leave the rebuilding to a trusted alternator and starter specialist.

The wires you speak of don't visibly look soldered, but crimped. It maybe that rebuilt alternators would have them soldered, cause that's what I would do after I'm done. These are such a pita to get out. The alternator in mine is still original from the factory. I could upload a photo to show you.
