All,
I have a 2002 M6 coupe that is no stranger to column lock issues - last year I got stranded soon after purchasing the car that required a tow to the local dealership. They were able to unlock the column and fixed the issue by removing the lock itself so that the column doesn't lock even with the car off and the alarm on. Problem solved, so I thought.
I had the car in the dealer this morning to fix an issue with my power seat switch that was draining the battery, and after they fixed this issue they went to move the car out of the work bay and the thing kept shutting off at 1-2 mph. The column is not locked, but apparently the car thinks that it is and won't let anybody drive it. They have tried flashing the computer, disconnecting/reconnecting the battery, and pulling fuses 5 and 23 for about 10 minutes and none of this has made the car drivable. They are out of ideas and so am I, so I was hoping someone here had a suggestion!!

Oh man, that's such a great thread right there. Wouldn't it be great if it were at the top of the C5 tech page? You know, right there at the beginning of the forum, where anyone who needs help with column lock information could easily see it, and potentially click the link and save us from innumerable column lock threads?

Nope, thats only half a fix. You now need to set the Fuel Cutoff MPH to 255. Default is 2mph. But this cant be done by dealer. You need to find a LSX shop with HP Tuners.

The fuel shutoff is to prevent the car from moving when the computer thinks the column is locked, so some idiot doesn't drop the clutch and run into a wall when he can't turn the wheel.
The LMC5 provides the "column is unlocked" signal to the computer so that the computer will not shut off the fuel; it takes the actual column lock actuator and any installed K harness entirely out of the wiring system when doing so. The column remains unlocked at all times, and the LMC5 provides a fake "locked" or "unlocked" signal to the computer as necessary.
