Default C5 HUD Bezel Replacement

My C5 HUD bezel is cracked and needs replacement.

Does anyone kow how to R&R the bezel without removing the dash?

I've doen some searches but haven't come up with a solution - haven't seen anything on the stickys either.

Thanks for any help.

Thanks, but by the looks of how the HUD Bezel was attached, the dash will have to come off.

Replying here to subscribe. I have my dash pad pulling away from under the bezel, showing the padding; looks nasty. If there's some magic for pulling/adjusting that thing without pulling the dash, I'd like to know.

Otherwise my plan is to come up with some kind of unobtrusive piece to fit under & extend the HUD trim.

I ordered the HUD bezel from Gene Culley. I'll check it when I get it but from the images in the HUD instalation link, it appears that the bezel is attached by screws on the bottom of the bezel which means either gauge pod removal and possibly the dash to get to the screws. I'll know more when I see the part and remove the gauges.

I know this is an old thread but applies to me now as I have the same issue.

Any resolution on this?

Removing the dash pad is much easier then you guys think !
I have done it at least 3 times already and will be doing it again to replace the DIC panel and put the Bezels around the gauges.

I've had to do this a few times and while it may be possible to replace the bezel without removing the dash pad, it will be much easier to do it with the dash pad out. As "SG Lou" mentioned it is not terribly difficult to remove the dash pad and will undoubtedly save you much aggravation.

At the very least you will need to remove the instrument cluster to get to the underside of the dash pad to remove the clips that retain the bezel, (there are 4 of them). In all likely hood you will break or lose one or more of them while trying to remove them. I would just pry them off as you'll be replacing the bezel any way. If you check out the underside of the bezel, you will see the 4 plastic "spikes" that are part of the bezel and must be inserted into the holes in the dashpad where the old bezel was. If it doesn't come with 4 new clips, you can find them in most autoparts stores in the "HELP" section.
(here's an enlarged picture of what they look like)
They come in an assorted pack of various sizes and are pretty much a one time use item. They will press down on the bezel "spikes" to lock it to the dash pad. Press carefully to not break off the spike.

Because the bezel is so far forward on the top of the dashpad, it will be difficult to slide the new bezel far enough forward (once the old one is removed) to get the forward two spikes to drop into their holes in the dashpad. Getting the old bezel out will not be the challenge, but getting the new one in without breaking off the two forward "spikes" will be difficult.

Once the new bezel is installed, reinstall the instrument cluster (after inserting the master plug and the plug for the hud) and you should be good to go.

Good luck... GUSTO

P.S. do not be tempted to try reusing an old "un-cracked" bezel. These things become very brittle and after being on top of the dash for any length of time, will crack if you sneeze on them. You'll just be repeating the effort in a few months if you do.

C5 2003 Z06 cracked HUD Bezel. R/R with OEM part without removing the dash. Sure I considered the retrofit cover solution but wanted to keep it stock. I saw a Youtube video showing how this is done, but he doesn't mention the metal clips underneath the 4 fasteners. I simply reached over and removed all the broken pieces which left behind the 4 fasteners with metal clips. The fasteners are the same brittle plastic with a metal clip on the inside. I took a long screwdriver and struck each of the 4 with a hammer until broken off. No I didn't do any damage. In some cases, I had to fish out the remaining bits from underneath. I realize that without removing the dash I will be unable to install clips on the new Bezel. Hopefully, the new Bezel will install firm and snug without need for clips. Sure it's a little tight back there and requires a surgeons touch, but this has got to be better than removing the whole dash! When it arrives I will pop it on and update.

Look to see if a couple small pieces of 3M double sided tape, strategically placed, might help.

Default C5 HUD Bezel R/R without remove dash follow up

Got it done! Never had to remove the dashboard. My new OEM Stock HUD Bezel arrived. I put it in place and the 4 fastening posts easily dropped into the corresponding holes. There are 2 tangs in the front which snap underneath the dash. It actually looks like the replacement Bezel was designed so it CAN (optionally) be installed without removing the dash. There is also a tab along the back (toward the front of car) and 2 tangs in the front. I had to jiggle it around a little and then one tang snapped in place with a big SNAP. Then with a firm push the other one snapped in. That's it. Installs very tightly with no need for the metal clips and no need for double sided tape. (Note that the 4 fastening posts are not really even being used - only for position purposes.)

So in summary, 2003 Z06 cracked HUD bezel. Cracked in a couple places. All I did was break off, pull out remaining broken pieces. This left 4 plastic fasteners still attached with the metal clips underneath. Took a long screwdriver and with a hammer carefully knocked them out. (That was the hardest part of the job.) Had to fish out some remaining pieces. New OEM HUD bezel just snapped in place nice and secure. That's it! Cost of part about $55. Total time was about 1 hour. Looks great! Thanks!

Do you remember where you got your replacement bezel? Sounds like yours was an easy install.
