Heres a head scratcher for you, I have a 98 c5 targa with the digital a/c controls. When I bought the car the a/c worked great. After disconnecting the positive battery cable yesterday and pulling the fuse for the hvac (27) due to the passenger side blowing hot air, the Auto button on the climate control no longer does anything. It simply shuts down the entier hvac system. Also adjusting the fan speed does nothing. If you wait for the hvac to exit its little set mode, if you press the fan speed button again it will then jump the fan speed. Do you have any ideas what to start looking for? There are 2 history codes for the right side actuator, but they arent current. When I clear them out they come right back when I cycle through the menu. Help?

When you clear them out, the car initializes the A/C and finds the error again. Most likely you've got a broken actuator. It's a pretty good bet you'll have to replace the passengers side one.
As a side note, I don't think those codes are ever current. Some once found are 'history' immediately because it doesn't bother to look for them again. It knows its broke, no sense in checking 2 seconds later to see if it's still broke. Good chance it is. So, history, not current.
I'm having the exact same issue with the drivers side, and I just installed a new actuator to no avail! So don't just assume that's it, I'm leaning towards having a bad a/c head unit.

In your case I would check the freon level of you haven't already.

The freon level has nothing to do with persistent HVAC codes being thrown, reduced cooling by itself would indicate that, but the codes that keep returning are what we are discussing. Thanks though
Another wierd AC issue. You did put the fuse back in? (Sorry, but had to ask) . There have been some excellent threads by Bill Curlee over the past few years, see if you can find and follows his directions. It might help, certainly won't hurt. Best of luck.

When you guys look at the display, what's it say the ambient temp is? If that shows real low, the system won't work. It also won't raise that temp up till the sensor is working and you drive the car in warm air for about 5-10 miles. It comes up real slow. A battery disconnect can reset that ambient temp, but I've not noticed any pattern as to how it does it. (mines been disconnected a lot lately).

If you're getting actuator codes, and replacing the actuator didn't fix it, the next place I'd look is in the wiring to it. If you feel the head unit has taken a dump, well only you can decide that given the gut feel you get from what you see.
