Here's my problem. Currently all of my lug nuts on one of my wheels are all on to the proper spec of 100 ft/lbs. One of those is a locking lug nut which I do have the key for. HOWEVER, when I attempted to take the lug nut off the key rounded the locking lug nuts grooves and now I can't get that damn lug nut off!!! :mad :mad
Any ideas on how to get that locking lug nut off the wheel so I can put a new one in it's place??
Re: How can I get this locking lug nut off???? (Tormania)
Well......I hate to say this but I know that some tire shops have a tool that they hammer...yes hammer on to the lug and it cuts into the lug allowing them to get a wrench on it and remove it...of course you have the possibilty of some idiot screwing up you rim and of course you already need a new lug....either way this all sux major azz...good luck

Make sure all of the other lug nuts are tightened to 110 lbs.
Then drive a deep well socket over the nut. (The open end of a socket is tapered so get one that will fit tight.)
Then slowly get the nut to start turning.

:yesnod: I had to do this to my car once when I lost the lock at the track one night. Worked like a charm.

we used to do it with an impact chissel and a punch end. work the punch end around the perimeter of the lug nut. hold the chissel so it doesn't slip. you can also do it by hand with a chissel. just make sure you hit the perimeter of the nut angeling the chissel so that when you rap it it makes the nut turn counter clockwise. good luckwcj

Thanks for the advice...time to find a deep well socket to fit.
Tormania - be sure that you use a 6 point socket. They are much stronger than a 12 point. Also use a good grade of socket, Craftsman, Snap On etc. You will not have a problem. Use a screw driver to drive messed up lug out of socket when done. BTW - I have a complete set of factory locking nuts and 2 keys that I will sell for $15.00 shipped. Taken off car only twice. Too much trouble to use when you autoX every weekend. Im or email if interested. :D
