You can do a search and find countless posts. I think the stock thermostat is 180. Which means it begins to open (not fully open) at 180. And stock fan settings are set high so in my opinion they are always running to hot. For myself I changed both to run much cooler.

I am thinking that it is a 187 for some reason.

Just so you know, running a cooler engine temperature will/can increase cylinder wall wear. If you run 160F the wear can go up significantly. I don't remember the specific amount but you can do searches on this and I think it goes up 10-15% versus a 190F temp.

Why is it always so surprising that different people in the world may be considering the same things with their cars? Where you never at one point curious about thermostats?

This forum is here to help people, not make them feel bad or stupid. I consider leaving this forum because not only is it the least helpful one I've been on, but there are more people on here who make needless comments rather then there are who answer or try to help questions.

As for the search function, I hardly ever come up with information on what I'm looking for. And besides, its nice to get an up-to-date opinion on things.

To answer the OP, you should discuss any build plans you have with a shop that will be doing the final tune. They will recommend a fan switch setting and a thermostat to match (if it is needed). It is not something that I would just throw in the car.
